Extending open arms to our newest team members.
Chick-fil-A’s mission statement is to be “The World’s Most Caring Company.” Serving with care and compassion begins as soon as someone is hired. We want to extend that care to each team member that joins our team. Each trainer is paired with a new hire, and you will play a key role in their transition as a team member at Chick-fil-A Atlantic & Hodges.
Welcome your buddy on their first day.
Remember the nerves you felt before your first shift? For many, this is their first job. Our role is to help relieve any stress or anxiety they may have on their first day. When you are paired with your buddy, take them on a store tour. Introduce them to the leadership team and show them around our kitchen and storage areas. Make them feel right at home.
Track your buddy’s training.
An important part of the role you serve is to keep up with their training. Many different trainers will be training them, but you are responsible for keeping up with their training inside and out of training. You are responsible for showing them the ropes: ensuring they are learning all positions, the core values and visions of Chick-fil-A, and informing your peers through training posts. It is a system of accountability and we will all hold each other accountable.
Finalize their training.
In just a few short weeks, your buddy has come so far in learning our systems and practices at Chick-fil-A Atlantic & Hodges, but it doesn’t mean they are ready to be on their own just yet. Your “final” role as their buddy is to make sure they were trained effectively and have all the tools they need to be an ace. Talk to them about how their training has been; see if they have any last minute questions or concerns. Let them know where they shined and what areas of opportunities they might have. Once they have trained on every station, they will complete a round robin with the Training Director or Training Supervisor. The results will reveal how ready they are to be on their own and how you did as their buddy.
Round Robins
What is a Round Robin? Round Robins will be performed by the Training Director or the Training Leads to evaluate the trainee's skill and knowledge of each station. The goal is to be as hands off as possible. While performing a Round Robin, the Trainer should be observing, quizzing, and providing feedback to the trainee. Each minute should be used as a coaching moment. The trainer will spend around approximately an hour on each station.
After the Round Robin is complete, if the Trainer believe's the Team Member will be successful on their own, it is time for the Team Member to graduate training! Each New Hire will receive a certificate of recognition and xtrabucks! We want to celebrate each Team Member that makes it out of training. It is not an easy feat! Continue celebrating by posting a photo of your Trainee on the Chick-fil-A Band page.
If the Trainer feels the Trainee needs further training on any station, it will be communicated to the Training Director. We want them to set each Team Member up for success. If they struggled during their Round Robin, they will be scheduled an addition day of training.
Training Page
Training Post
Earlier we learned about the importance of tracking a trainee's progress. How do we do this? The goal of a training post is to let other Trainers know where the Trainee shines and what they could improve upon. When making a training post, it needs to be informative. Ponder on the following questions when writing your post:
What do they need to work on? What strategies did you use to help them improve?
What type of learner are they? What tools helped them most?
Did they pass their menu test?
What are their strength? Do they respond well with verbal encouragement or rewards (xtrabucks, VSBL points, etc.)?
Along with sending training posts in the page, it is important to stay up to date with posts other members making. The Training Team page is the easiest way to communicate with you guys. Like we learned earlier, one way to be an effective trainer is by reading previous training posts about your trainee. As a trainer, it is important to be prepared.
There will also be times where we need to rollout a new menu item. When a new rollout comes, it will be posted in the page. When this happens, each trainer will be required to do assigned Pathway videos and assist in making video posts to help coach the team on our new items.
